AZ 85

State Route 85 runs from the Mexican border in Lukeville, through Ajo and Gila Bend, to Buckeye. SR 85's route was heavily influenced by US 80 and I-10. After US 80 was cut off at Benson, SR 85 was extended into Phoenix until I-10 was completed into Phoenix.

Length: 129 miles
Existed since: 1936
Current Route: Mexican border in Lukeville to I-10 in Buckeye
Historical Route: Lukeville to Phoenix
Major Junctions: AZ 86, I-8, I-10

Cool Features

SR 85's mileposts are unique. The original segment of SR 85 between Lukeville and Gila Bend use the original SR 85 numbering. However, for some reason the mile markers start in Gila Bend and increase as you go south. Usually it's the other way around. The northern segment of SR 85 between Gila Bend and Buckeye follows the numbering of US 80's mile markers.
